Today, Andrew Harper’s The Hideaway Report is among the most successful publications in the travel business. To preclude any special treatment during his trips, the editor and publisher uses his real name when on the road and the pseudonym in his writings. ‘Anonymity,’ he explains, ‘breeds objectivity.’

Luxury Travel Experiences

“ROISSY-CHARLES DE GAULLE The opening of another new terminal, 2G, has done little to facilitate connections at this notoriously inconvenient airport. Travelers to popular destinations such as Florence, Verona and Bilbao should be aware that 2G is nearly 15 minutes by bus from the other terminals, a remote location that also adds 15 minutes to a taxi ride from central Paris. It is extremely easy to miss a flight. When flying from the States and connecting to a smaller European city, Amsterdam’s Schiphol is a much better bet.”

— Hideaway Report, December 2008

Disappointed by out-of-date guidebooks, and magazines driven by the demands of advertisers, Andrew Harper conceived of an independent monthly publication aimed at affluent and sophisticated travelers, chiefly corporate presidents and CEOs. Thus began Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report. Traveling incognito and always paying his own way, he saw his idea rapidly take off. Now, 30 years later, Andrew Harper is recognized as the ultimate authority on luxury travel. With a greatly expanded service offering, Andrew Harper has more than 25,000 loyal members, at least 90% of whom have traveled outside the U.S. in the past 12 months.

For nearly two decades all hotel inspections and reviews were carried out either by Andrew Harper himself, or his brother and Associate Publisher, Richard Harper. In 1998 they were joined by Associate Editor, Iain Harper, who became responsible for an increasing share of the demanding travel and writing schedule.

Having established a loyal following with Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report, Andrew Harper decided that the obvious next step would be to create a range of travel services, designed to meet his own exacting standards. First came the Q Club (now The Harper Alliance), offering privileges and preferred rates at rigorously selected properties worldwide. This was followed by escorted tours to exotic and challenging destinations. Today, Andrew Harper’s world has expanded to include a destination and lifestyle club, a boutique travel planning service, and an exclusive portfolio of luxury villas and yachts that are regularly inspected. All of which add up to resources that provide our members with the ability to dream and plan their most extraordinary luxury travel experiences.
