Christmas at The Goring

This holiday season, five suites in London’s The Goring will feature Christmas trees especially designed for them by top British luxury brands. The five companies — design company LINLEY, purveyors of food and drink Fortnum & Mason, wallpaper manufacturers Cole & Son, chocolatiers Charbonnel et Walker and family-owned jewelers Boodles — are  all members of the British luxury consortium Walpole, of which The Goring is also a member.

From The Andrew Harper Collection:

“Delightful small hotel, run by the same family for four generations and located within a stone’s throw of Buckingham Palace. The classic English atmosphere is complemented by oustanding personal service. Sixty-nine accommodations offer a traditional country house décor; most have walk-in showers. The Dining Room, designed by David Linley, the Queen’s nephew, serves fine British cuisine, accompanied by an outstanding wine list. The crown jewel of the hotel is its glorious private garden. There are no recreational facilities on site, but guests have access to nearby health club with pool, sauna and gym.”

My husband and I have visited The Goring many times over the years. Our first visit was over 30 years ago with very young sons. Since then we have stayed there numerous times as a couple, then with married children. I have stayed there with a daughter-in-law, a friend, and a trip alone as well. In all situations it has never failed to delight. The superb staff makes you feel welcome and “at home” in all situations. They are ready to offer as much help, information and suggestions as you want —- always to the right degree and never overbearing. The Goring is indeed a gem not to be missed!
