Royal Malewane

Royal Malewane is a lavish and intimate safari lodge within the private Thornybush Game Reserve along the western fringe of South Africa’s Kruger National Park. Throughout the property, elevated walkways lead to six freestanding suites that feature scenic decks with private plunge pools, as well as living areas with log fires. This perennial Harper favorite continues to provide memorable safari experiences.

The property has recently advised us that it now operates a full kosher kitchen, using products sourced directly from Johannesburg. This is part of an ongoing effort to help guests maintain their dietary requirements, an often difficult proposition while on safari in Africa. Two weeks’ notice is required.

Royal Malewane also now supplies Canon and Nikon camera lenses and bodies to its guests for an additional fee, with lenses ranging from 70mm to 600mm in focal length. For those serious about safari photography, we personally recommend at least a 400mm lens. Though intuitive to use, these are relatively large and sensitive pieces of equipment, and can be cumbersome to travel with.

The rangers of Royal Malewane are all expert photographers, and each hosts a wonderful wildlife gallery here.

We just left Royal Malawane. Indeed, they have everything needed for serious and amateur photographers. We were blessed to have Ryan as our guide. He could easily teach a course in photography! I had problems with my camera and he helped me tremendously. He also always puts you in the best possible light for fabulous photos. We look forward to returning.
