Windsor Castle Concours of Elegance, September 7-9, 2012

This September marks the arrival of the first Windsor Castle Concours of Elegance, a gathering of rare and vintage automobiles held on the grounds of Windsor Castle. Sixty unique cars will be displayed in the central quadrangle of the castle, including 20 from the United States. Dozens more will be shown across related events, including a “Best of the British” collection.

Other notable concours around the world include the Pebble Beach Concours and the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The tradition dates from 17th-century France, when aristocrats paraded their gilded horse-drawn carriages through the parks of Paris (several British royal carriages will also be on display at the Windsor event). With the Industrial Age, they evolved into competitive beauty pageants for car enthusiasts.

The Windsor collection will feature historic Jaguars, Bentleys, Ferraris and other famous marques from AC to Zagato. Prince Charles’ Aston Martin Volante DB6 MKII, last seen departing the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding reception, will also make an appearance.

Abercrombie & Kent is currently offering a four-day tour arranged around the event. Please contact our Travel Office at reservations@andrewharper.com or (800) 375-4685 for more details.
