Thirteenth-century stone farmhouse built as a resting place for pilgrims en route to Rome, converted to a lavish 15-room hotel (including six garden suites), 35 minutes southeast of Siena in a rural corner of Tuscany. Cypress-lined lane leads across 13-acre gated estate. Dramatic interiors feature pine floors, beamed ceilings, fireplaces, fine antiques, velvet-draped windows and comfortable baths with period-style tubs and separate showers. Lunch and dinner served in dining room or magnificent adjacent garden; breakfast in large, warm country kitchen. Also free-form outdoor pool, small spa, tennis, bocce and basketball courts, and ample room for quiet relaxation.
