Hideaway on private four-acre islet, 10 minutes by boat from Ambergris Caye. Seven cottages (maximum 18 guests) have king-size beds, lavish baths, stylish living areas (satellite TV/DVDs, CD players, iPads, stocked refrigerators) and decks with private plunge pools. New overwater bungalow with glass floor. Delicious meals are served on private verandas. Calm and very shallow translucent waters are ideal for bonefishing, but not for swimming. Massage services, guided fishing excursions, plus snorkeling/scuba trips to the renowned Hol Chan Marine Reserve.

Harper Member Critique - Cayo Espanto, Belize

"Thanks for the email inquiring about our recent trip to Belize and our stay Cayo Espanto. It is a wonderful and unique property!
We have had the privilege of extensive travel over the years for business as well as pleasure and have stayed in some wonderful places. I would say Cayo Espanto is on the top 5 list! The island is magical, and the villa was so well thought out: its spaces, dipping pool, amenities (rain ponchos and a Yoga mat in the closet, Primrose toiletries!), view, privacy....even the resident dog, Buddy, for the guests to pet and love on.
The service by our Houseman, Obed, was fantastic. He anticipated our every need and want before we even knew what it was that we may have needed or wanted! He created a wonderful dining experience with each meal. He would move the teak table to a different location: inside the villa or on the deck by the dipping pool; at the end of the dock so we could watch the moon rise; shielded from the wind on a particularly gusty day. He was just thoughtful in every way....and respected our privacy!
The snorkeling guides, Victor and Joel, took us to many lovely snorkeling places each of 3 days. We even went spear fishing and got 2 lobsters and a hog fish which the chef prepared for dinner that night. All in all a very wonderful experience with caring, thoughtful and well trained staff.
The food was very good, not great. Some of the meals were a bit under seasoned/spiced for our tastes, which admittedly are half-way to the wild side (we had indicated on our pre-arrival survey that we like very spicy food). On the other hand, the food presentation was gorgeous, and a constant delight. Also, in the survey we pre-sent, we specified no bananas or avocados but three meals contained them so that was a detail they missed. The terrible consequence was that we had to tell them "no avocado" a couple of times and pick a few green slimy things out of a salad or two.
Bedside reading lights could only be controlled from one side which made it a bit awkward if one of us wanted to read later than the other. It would be nice if they could figure out how to correct this."MO
