Overview

From Andrew Harper

View Map
Magnificent hotel created from a 15th-century palazzo and a 16th-century convent, filled with museum-quality art. The property is set amid an 11-acre private garden a 15-minute walk from the historic center of Florence. The 116 accommodations are individually decorated in a variety of historical styles. Typical Junior Suites have parquet floors, high-ceilinged bedrooms with gilt trim, and splendid Murano glass chandeliers. Huge marble baths provide extra-long tubs, spacious walk-in showers and toiletries specially created for the hotel by renowned Florence-based perfumer Lorenzo Villoresi. Dining venues include Il Palagio terrace restaurant with separate wine bar, and spa café. The wonderful garden contains a 60-foot lap pool; treatments at the superlative spa nearby use the products of Florence’s famous 13th-century pharmacy, Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella.

Hello, I am very sorry to hear about this. The Conventino didn't exist when I stayed at the Florence Four Seasons right after it opened, and I'm disappointed that they would attempt to pull this maneuver on their clients without clearly explaining up front what the difference between these accommodations actually amounts to (I think their website is confusing about this issue as well). Unfortunately, 'composite' hotels like this one often play a bit loose with the rules of fair play. I have informed our travel office of the situation and will update the overview. Best regards, Andrew Harper

I was both disappointed and surprised at your ratings for this Four Seasons after our visit last week. My concern was both with the quality of these two Hotels, but the fact that Andrew Harper and Team did not warn any of members like myself that this is really 2 Hotels. One a 5 star, and the other an a beautiful 16 Century Conventino that is nothing more than an Annex for the 15 Century Palace. We were placed in the Conventio and upgraded to the Executive Suite in the back corner next to the street, that was a beautiful room in the worst location in the Annex. Andrew Harper and any responsible Travel Advisor should warn their members that the Annex although beautiful is almost 1/4 mile from the main Hotel and all of the amenities. To make it worse for the Ladies they need to either walk over the gravel ( yes I said gravel which is very hard on their expensive shoes!) or wait for a golf cart. The Conventino (The Annex) has no amenities except free "soda pop" in the afternoon. When we go to a great Hotel we all expect wonderful amenities, and the Four Seasons should be ashame to send customers out to the Convent without advising them in advance that they will be staying in the Conventino!!! Our rating of the Palace would be 5 stars, and the Annex somewhere between 2 to 3 stars due to the fact it has NO AMENITIES. It would be terrific to be there in the winter!!! You would need a "dog sled" to go to the Hotel you are paying $1200 per night for!!! I have been a Andrew Harper member for years, and you have never led me astray before, but you should be ashamed of your review. Only the Four Seasons could pull this sham off! George T. Kruer
