Distinctive resort on a 250-acre estate in the heart of the Napa Valley in St. Helena, 90 minutes north of San Francisco. Clusters of dormered cottages contain 85 guest quarters; for maximum spaciousness and privacy, request a Treeline Cottage, Woodland Room, Fairway Treeline Room or Hillside Terrace Room with a fireplace and private terrace. A clubhouse provides casual grill luncheons, while dinners are served in a separate formal restaurant. There, chef Christopher Kostow has deservedly garnered three Michelin stars for his Modern American cuisine. Amenities include two outdoor pools, a 9-hole golf course, new golf performance studio, seven tennis courts and an extensive spa.

Meadowood is absolutely one of our favorite destinations. Property is heavily wooded, well-tended, with excellent service. The restaurant is Michelin-starred, and everything about the hotel is impeccable. We've stayed there innumerable times and always come away delighted. Natalie and Phil Berkowitz

Have you stayed at Calistoga Ranch? That's where we usually stay and in fact are staying there in November 2012. We were thinking about trying something new.

Disappointed - nice property, mediocre service. Definitely prefer L'Auberge.
