Just returned from New York and two nights at the Plaza. While the location is absolutely perfect for any tourist, the hotel stay was not a good experience. We have stayed in many Andrew Harper recommended properties and this is the first time we have felt the need to submit a poor review. Some of the things we experienced were shocking for the amount of money this hotel charges per night. We reserved a Rose Suite which I was assured was lovely. The room itself was spacious, had huge closets and nicely decorated, the bathroom was beautiful and spotless but did not offer enough counter space or places to store your belongings. Our first night we arrived at 6pm and the room was still not ready. We had to wait 45 minutes for the room to be prepared. Once in the room our luggage did not arrive for another 35 minutes and when it did the bellman said he would request another luggage rack that never arrived. The TV was not functioning and we were told the hotel hoped to have it up and running my nightfall, it was running at 10pm or so. We ordered room service the first night, and the ordered arrived incorrect, the salad was not what was ordered and part of the order was missing. The person who delivered the food stated he was sorry but would we like to just eat what had been provided? The organic chicken was dry and cold, very unappealing. Exhausted after walking the beautiful central park, we fell into bed only to find that the mattress was extremely poor. The mattress was either never replaced or it should be replaced because there were sleeping indentations and a ridge in the middle. We were shocked and so disappointed, stating to one another, we could be more comfortable in a Holiday Inn Express. We were awakened by the neighbors head board banging our wall at 1:30am. Needless to say, this was not a good experience. I could go on but what is the point, I would need to access my list of complaints on my I Pad to refresh my mind because there were so many negatives. We found the Plaza to be stuffy, unhelpful and ridiculously overpriced. On a positive note, our butler brought ice within 5 minutes of our phone request, so there may be hope after all.
