We were a little concerned about staying at Raffles, because both our guidebooks said the hotel was overly touristy. The Long Bar and Billiard Room may be, but because the hotel itself is off-limits to non-guests, it felt like an oasis. We loved the soaring colonial architecture and the old-world feel of our suite. It felt really large, with high ceilings and a huge bathroom. The location was very central, and the rooftop pool was a lovely place to relax for a couple hours in the afternoon. The staff was great - the concierge was extremely helpful, and our butler was charming. The only downside is that you don't really get any views.
