We stayed at the Paws Up resort near Missoula, MT last August and can't say enough good things about this great location. Owned by Nadine & Dave Lipson, the couple have invested heavily in time and money to turn this working ranch into an ideal luxury resort that still makes you feel like a personal guest. Their website www.pawsup.com shows the beauty of this huge ranch that is far better than any description we can offer. We were actually attracted to the resort because of its pet friendly attitude. Not surprising with the name Paws Up
The morning after our Saturday arrival, I went hiking with my two year old Doberman, Jeta. Knowing the vastness of the area, I had purchased a GPS collar to track her if she should get lost. Unfortunately, while I had the collar off to adjust it, a bow hunter came out of the woods and startled her.
For the entire day, the staff at Paws Up dedicated themselves to helping me find my lost constant companion. There had to be twenty or thirty people combing the area by truck, foot and horseback, and making calls to surrounding areas. The owner, Mrs Lipson, called to express her concern and support as did many others.
Eight hours later, exhausted from searching, I finally found her. My wife, Jeta and I became celebrities at the ranch and no one would even think of accepting a reward.
In general, the staff all go out of their way to help in any way and to make you feel welcome. The homes are beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Each features at least two bedrooms and two baths with an outside hot tub as well as full kitchen facilities. While it is unlikely you would be preparing meals since this is all provided.
The food was excellent. It was well prepared and served nicely. However, the menu was a bit limited and changed little from day to day. Perhaps a few more choices or a few more changes would be an improvement. One very nice feature is the ability to have your meals brought to your home. You can even arrange to have the chef prepare a meal in your home, although this does involve extra charge.
There are a wide range of activities available, although we preferred to just enjoy the scenery, comfort and hospitality, so I can't comment on them, but you certainly could keep busy all the time.
All in all, we found this to be a wonderful resort. We have already made our reservations for next year!
