Recently went to San Ysidro Ranch with my wife for a 5 night stay. We used a wedding in Santa Barbara as an excuse to stay at San Ysidro Ranch and unwind. The property is nicely hidden in the hills and provides the perfect venue for a peaceful getaway. Each room/cottage is unique, and ours was no exception. The swimming pool sits nicely tucked at the back of the property, and provides a very peaceful retreat. The exercise room sites by the pool, and is average at best, requiring an upgrade.
As important as the venue is, the service level should at least equal, if not exceed expectations. This is where the San Ysidro Ranch failed miserably. The service staff was disconnected and seemed absent.
Immediately after arrival, a request for a radio for our room took over two hours to be fulfilled, and required a phone call for a reminder.
A morning room service order was "lost", and breakfast arrived 90 minutes after the order was placed (and after a phone call to inquire). When the room service order arrived, specific dietary requests made were not honored, and we had to send it back, only to wait another 35 minutes for it to be delivered again.
Evening turndown was not performed twice during our 5 night stay.
Hotel did nothing to rectify situation, leaving my wife and I a little bothered by their non-chalant responses. After returning home, I contacted hotel senior management to follow up and inform them of their deficiencies. I barely got an apology.
Overall, I believe the San Ysidro Ranch is succeeding based on long time reputation. I will never go back, and will not recommend to friends. Sorry...
That is appalling. I just stayed there for 3 nights earlier in February, and the service was superb. I am so sorry you had such a bad experience!
