Sequestered south of Los Angeles in the verdant hills between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, The Resort at Pelican Hill looks, from a distance, like a slice of Tuscany transplanted beside the Pacific. The hotel opened in November 2008, and its 504 acres of grounds have been landscaped with groves of olive, cypress and fig trees.

On very short notice Susan arranged our six night stay in a two-bedroom villa in May 2012. As neither of us plays golf we took advantage of the pools, the restaurants, and the spa. The setting is beautiful and the resort makes excellent use of its location. The pools are sparkling and the service, especially at the Villa pool by Karey and his staff, is extremely attentive, very prompt and efficient. The food is excellent. The spa was a real treat. Our villa was always well maintained and spotless with many thoughtful features. Obviously, the housekeeping staff works very hard and they are well-versed in all aspects of the rooms including the entertainment system (which one of them had to give us a brief tutorial in operating). Actually. every staff member we encountered from the front desk at the Villa Clubhouse, the bellmen, the servers and hosts at the restaurants, the pool, the spa, maintenance, etc. went above and beyond to make our stay memorable for all the right reasons. Special kudos to Jon Yeung at the Villa Clubhouse for his warmth, humor, and genuine interest in our comfort. We had a great experience, would definitely return, and feel totally comfortable recommending Pelican Hill!

We spent the Thanksgiving holiday week in a 4-bedroom villa. Some of us had enjoyed a previous stay in the bungalow rooms, and the villas were very pleasant as well. In particular, the dedicated villa staff was extremely attentive and genuinely pleasant (i.e., not simply reading from a corporate manual). The villa restaurant, gym and pool also provided great alternatives to the main property. That being said, the main property is fabulous. One day, the main pool servers could not keep up with guest requests and orders -- I was pleasantly surprised to see several managers and staff from other areas appear to take orders to minimize the guest impact. That type of seamless coordination among the team there was standard. Overall, the food was very good - the food in their signature restaurant, however, was delicious. This is truly an exceptional property, and one we will visit again.

"Before making our reservation at Pelican Hill, I received your fall magazine that advertised Pelican Hill and its' one round of golf, for two promotion. I called Andrew Harper and spoke with Trisha Stremski regarding the wonderful golf promotion. She immediately called the pro shop at Pelican Hill and arranged a tee time for my husband and son. Her promptness in organizing this special golf offer, on our behalf, was exemplary. She was very helpful, knowledgable and a very pleasant person to work with. I will definitely request her help in the future, when making our reservations through Andrew Harper's wonderful inventory of destinations and ""perks!!!"""

From start to finish, it was the perfect place for us. We had never been to that part of California, and Newport Beach is just absolutely beautiful. We flew into John Wayne Airport and everything looked just like I always thought it should look. I grew up watching the Mickey Mouse Club and, of course, wanting to visit Disneyland. It happened to be only 23 miles from our villa. You cannot imagine how excited I was at the prospect of going to Disneyland; I had only waited 50 years!! Everyone at the resort was so gracious and welcoming. Our villa was beautiful. We had views of the golf course (which the boys made good use of) and the Pacific Ocean. We had a lovely patio with chairs and tables to lounge or dine on and watch the sun go down. It truly was magnificent. We cooked some times and also ordered out at some wonderful restaurants. The babies had such a great time together and the people at the hotel did a good job of "baby proofing" the house. The service was really the best I have ever encountered. They came to clean and spiff up the room twice a day, changed sheets and brought extra towels, washed dishes and anything else we wanted them to do. Everyone was so accommodating. Truly, it was just perfect. We could completely relax. July 2011

Pelican Hill exceeded our expectations. They provided top notch service and attention, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the ocean view from the terrace was superb!
