Romantic mountain resort in the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana. Twenty-three log cabins overlook a rushing creek and fir forest. Each comes with a fireplace and massive king bed. The recently refurbished Luxury Cabins offer the most secluded locations, plus separate living rooms and spa decks. A cedar lodge contains a library with a fireplace, rooftop bar-lounge and dining room. Heated outdoor pool and spa, fitness center, in-cabin massages, guided fly-fishing, horseback riding, daylong cattle drives, picnic hikes; cross-country skiing, sleigh rides, snowmobiling in winter. No children under age 16.

Rates

Luxury Suite or Sugar Cabin, from $1,150; Luxury Cabin, from $1,250 (all meals, house wine/cocktails and selected activities included).

Triple Creek Ranch.  This was, hard to believe, our 14th visit to Triple Creek, and staying there is like going home for us.  My wife said this to the owner, Craig Barrett, and he said that was his intention.  The remodeled cabins (we stayed in Nez Perce) and dining room were great; the staff was, as usual, astonishingly friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.  A nature tour with manager Bill McConnell was one of the highlights of the entire trip.  The food was great – it keeps getting better with each visit.  There is something magical about this place, and all guests seem to sense that, and appreciate it.  We certainly do. July 2011
