Stately Victorian palace-resort hotel with striking views of the grand Jungfrau, 90 minutes south of Lucerne (two hours from Zurich). The 212 spacious, contemporary lodgings (no A/C) include three dozen Jungfrau-view Junior Suites. Public areas include several lounges with fireplaces, a convivial bar, La Terrasse gourmet restaurant, a brasserie for authentic Swiss specialties, and La Pastateca for Italian pastas. Outstanding hotel. The entire spa & pool area is very pleasant and nothing beats lying in a hot tub while watching the fog roll over the nearby hills. Rooms come with fresh mountain air. It was a pleasure to deal with the staff - we had everything our way and without effort. Surprisingly, the town's historic centre across the river has a very private atmosphere to it.
