The dual island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis lies 15 minutes by air west of Antigua. St. Kitts holds a central place in the colonial history of the Caribbean, the British having made their first settlement here in 1624. The two principal attractions of neighboring Nevis are tranquility and natural beauty. The island has nothing in the way of shopping or nightlife, few restaurants, and its beaches are unremarkable. Alexander Hamilton was born on Nevis in either 1755 or 1757, moving to New Jersey to pursue his education in 1772.
