Whistler

Whistler

Overview

From Andrew Harper

Whistler is justifiably hailed as one of North America’s premier winter destinations. The resort boasts the largest skiing terrain on the continent (more than 7,000 acres), with 200 marked trails and a dozen far-flung alpine bowls, plus another 100,000 acres of heli- and Sno-Cat backcountry skiing. Located 78 miles, or about two hours, from downtown Vancouver, Whistler takes its name from the shrill chirp made by the local marmots. The resort features two mountains (Whistler and Blackcomb) linked by a sprawling, Tyrolean-inspired pedestrian village. All manner of upscale boutiques, galleries, pubs and restaurants line the cobblestone streets.
