From its barren salt flats to its crystalline mountain streams, Utah is a study in contradictions. On one hand, the state retains much of the isolationist, monolithic flavor born when Brigham Young established a home base here with his Mormon pilgrims in the 19th Century. And while the church is no longer ready to face off against the federal government over the issue of polygamy, as it did in 1857, the Mormons still dominate the state’s culture and politics.
On the other hand, Utah is a beacon of cosmopolitanism and diversity. Salt Lake City has become the industrial banking center of the United States, hosts a substantial arts scene and has even, to the surprise of many, been touted as a gay-friendly metropolis. But the Beehive State’s diversity is still, first and foremost, geographic: From the snowcapped peaks of Winter Olympic-host ski resorts like Deer Valley to the stunning sandstone of the southern national parks like Arches and Bryce Canyon to the mountain-biking mecca of Moab, Utah is an outdoor lover's promised land. Nature and culture converge each January in the renowned Sundance Film Festival. The mountain suites in Robert Redford’s Sundance Resort combine the best of Utah’s two worlds: cosmopolitan sophistication amid breathtaking ancient wilderness.

My husband, 4 year old daughter, and I would like to visit SLC in Utah in March and were wondering which hotel would be best for ski in, ski out, easy access to ski school for our 4 year old, and has the best all round accomodations? We have been to the stein eriksen, but haven't seen the new st regis or the montage yet. Thx!
Hello,
Before we make our recommendation, we want to note that the Montage and St. Regis properties are not yet Harper-recommended - the Stein Eriksen Lodge and Goldener Hirsch Inn are the only Harper-recommended resorts at this time.
We did an informal poll of the North America team, and they generally agreed that if you prefer to stay somewhere other than the Stein Eriksen Lodge, Montage would be a fine choice. They have a children's club as well as potentially appealing two-bedroom suites.
