Cold Weather Cocktail Series: Pumpkin Ale Shandy

By Andrew Harper Staff

The Harper Way | November 13, 2014

Today's cold weather cocktail recipe is a simple beverage inspired by fall. This drink can easily be put together if you have expected (or unexpected!) guests on their way. A classic shandy is typically made with carbonated lemonade and beer but this rendition draws upon the cool, crisp months of fall. In this version, we bring together the colors of the season with a hearty pumpkin ale and fresh orange slices. The rich flavors of pumpkin butter and freshly grated nutmeg add a nice, subtle complexity to the drink.

Pumpkin Ale Shandy

Makes 1 servingPumpkin Ale Shandy

  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 1 oz fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin butter
  • 1 cup ice
  • 4-5 oz pumpkin ale, like Rogue Farms Pumpkin Patch Ale, chilled
  • Fresh nutmeg, for garnish
  • Orange slice, for garnish

Instructions: Add Cointreau, orange juice, pumpkin butter and ice into a mixing glass. Shake vigorously to combine for 10 seconds, then strain into your glass of choice. Fill the rest of your glass with pumpkin ale. To garnish, grate fresh nutmeg over the top of your shandy with a Microplane and add a slice of orange.
