Our Review of Relais Borgo Santo Pietro:
Thirteenth-century stone manor house built as a resting place for pilgrims en route to Rome, converted to the lavish Borgo Santo Pietro hotel with 15 rooms (including seven garden suites), 35 minutes southeast of Siena in a rural corner of Tuscany. Cypress-lined lane leads across the 100-acre gated estate (13 acres of gardens). Dramatic interiors feature pine floors, beamed ceilings, fireplaces, fine antiques, velvet-draped windows and comfortable baths with period-style tubs and separate showers. Lunch and dinner served in indoor/outdoor one-star Meo Modo restaurant overseen by Andrea Mattei; breakfast in large, warm country kitchen. Free-form outdoor pool with adjacent bar, small refreshed spa with two treatment rooms, two garden therapy rooms and a lounge with fireplaces, chandeliers, vaulted ceilings and large windows, tennis, bocce and basketball courts, and ample room for quiet relaxation. Horseback riding and a new cooking school.
