Our Review of Buckland Manor:
Charming 13th-century manor house-hotel at the edge of an unspoiled village near Broadway. Fifteen stylish guest quarters (no A/C) feature antiques and rich wallcoverings. Request “Vaulted” or “Fountain,” though “Oak,” “Delany,” “Floral” and “Scott” are also very nice; baths provide soaking tubs and separate showers. Restful lounges have oak paneling, beamed ceilings, Oriental carpets and log fires. Candlelit dining room features fresh local produce, with herbs from the manor’s own gardens. Amenities include 10 acres of ornamental gardens, tennis courts, a croquet lawn and a small outdoor heated pool. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon is 30 minutes away. No children under age 10.
