La Grande Maison de Bernard Magrez

93 Editor Rating
Scale of 90-100

Owned by distinguished winemaker Bernard Magrez, who has four grands crus classés châteaux in the Bordeaux region, this elegant six-room hotel occupies a handsome 18th-century limestone mansion in a quiet residential neighborhood outside Bordeaux’s city center. It showcases the region’s wines and features an excellent two-star restaurant overseen by Pierre Gagnaire. Comfortable rooms are decorated in a traditional French bourgeois style with fabrics from Pierre Frey and Braquenié, furniture by Moissonnier and toiletries by Guerlain. Baths feature heated limestone floors and rainfall showers. In-room spa treatments available. Even without amenities such as a gym or pool, this is still a fine property in a pleasant park setting. Restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday.
