Our Review of Hotel Grano de Oro:
Attractive Old World-style hotel occupying a handsomely restored turn-of-the-century mansion in a quiet residential section of San José (a short taxi ride from the National Museum, National Theater and best shopping districts). Antique hardwood floors, tall windows, Oriental rugs and custom-crafted native wood furnishings accent 40 homey lodgings; opt for the Vista de Oro Suite or Garden Suite. Rooftop garden terrace with lounge beds and two Jacuzzis; spa treatments available. Restaurant serves excellent European-influenced Costa Rican meals in a cozy dining room and adjacent inner courtyard; public areas include a wine bar and lounge. An intimate in-city oasis overseen by a friendly, helpful staff.
